Along The cobbled Streets of St Cathrines Hill
I dont even know where to start..... I am now comming up to the end of my second week in the quaint little town of Frome, I can tell you it is far from quiet!! There is always something going on..... for example last week I took part in the annual Frome Festival Fashion show, Modeling a talented identpant local designer, Truly Sopel's newly launched knicker collection. alongside the fashion show my personal highlight of the week there are many events and workshops happening throughout the week during the festival why not have a look on the website where there are great images that capture the country-cottage community atomosphere and step into the real Somerset.
As some of you may know, I am currently on a work experience placement at Truly Sopel, I am here for a month so I am saddly half way through my time here already. It has been a great experience so far. Though I must say I was slightly dropped in at the deep end on my first day when asked to be a model for the Frome fashion show..... I will share that I may of been secretly nervous however doing it was fablous. I mean what girl doesn't love having her hair and make-up done to look stunning, to then be dressed in the cutest and comfortable top and knicker set.... I know its hard to believe but if you come to Truly Sopel you will find gorgeous unquie garments balanced with comfortable fit so it is certainly wearable day in day out!
If you long to capture the inchild within you Truly Sopel Boutique is the place to go as its full of innco playful creations waiting for you to try on.

I love working here its a beautiful place full of lovely people!!
What have I been up to you maybe asking? well its different day to day, though the sewing machine is on stand-by and has been used well as I have been making a few Autumn/Winter knicker sets, from these sweet antique 100% cottons fabrics constructed in the same style as the present collection..... keep your eye out for them!
I have also been sewing a couple of samples ready for the Autumn/Winter collection once again to be sent to the factories for production. One being an adorable button up hooded cape which is close to being my favourite item for the cold season.
So far I have do a lot of hands on sewing and pattern cutting enabling me to get a realistic feel for the company and what is involved....Thanks Truly.

INCANDESCENT BLACK
I found myself pleasantly surprise with this project as I was excepting a challenge due to the fact this was the first live group project we had been asked to do, it was base on the fashion forecasting element presented by Trend Stop company.
My group and I based our trend about space and the atmosphere, the idea of escaping in the vast landscape, supported by a number of articles and films related. With this in mind the two fashion design students myself and Rebecca Sutherland-Young agreed on designing minimalistic structures focusing on the finished and detail pattern for detailing. We also decided to mix fitted garments with a more relaxed over sized garment.

Project: Captivating Curves
Autumn/Winter Women's wear
CAPTIVATING CURVES
I really enjoyed researching and designing for this outfit and I am pleased with the final outcome I have to say.
With this project I wanted to interpret a strong defined silhouette, I achieved this through looking at architecture influences such as the Baroque movement, and column structures seen throughout Roman. To create this strong curvaceous outfit I removed seams and manipulated the collar, for the dress I designed my own print reflecting traditional floor plan blue prints layering in colours on the neck panels. Finally I send my dress fabric to be pleated to ensure it was correctly done.
The company I used to do my pleat are call F.Ciement Pleating, they are a fantastic team working in London to hand produce a wide range of pleating techniques, simple to highly complicated for more information if you are interested visit their website at: http://www.cimentpleating.co.uk/
The are great and commucation with you throughout and welcome to travel to their workshop to see samples and how it all works.

Project: Possibilities
As you can see in a few of these photos this garment can be worn in a number of ways, allowing the wearer to become the designer, Whilst this is a fun expressive outfit it was formed around an important issue of making a change and supporting the eco chic image.
(Photogrpher: Natalie Stephenson, Model: Amy Topping)
This multi-functional dress is constructed from a medium weight jersey and a big knit wool fabric. I chose these fabrics to reflect the earthy theme in colour and texture representing being at one with the coutryside we are so close to loosing, whilst ensuring to do this in a subtle manner.
Allow the creativity flow this garment can last will a new look each time it is styled up.

Project: The New Heritage
THE NEW HERITAGE
The New Herirage, was a project based around the Devil in the Detail idea. I chose to look back to find inspiration for the detailing and then interpreting for the present 21st century, I feel it has worked well as it can be worn in more a traditional way or relaxed to form a contemporary casual style.
I have to say I love the fit of these shorts and confess to wearing them regularly.

INDUSTRIAL NATURE
Inspiration : Initially the design was based around the working men ideal and style such as builders therefore I needed to consider lifestyle and practical uses before creating the image and design aesthetics, the materail chooses where formed through the contrasting textures and colour tones I expanded in my own photographs of nature and rough elements surrounding built up areas creating the link/relationship between nature and settlements.
Transition Form a Newbie
