Pre collections

The time has come to start my pre collection. My initial theme I have chosen is based around Contour lines , deciding this theme  is great  to explore shape relating to the body and to fabric drape, seeing how I can  manipulate  the fit and flow of the garments. It is an exciting start and I cant wait to develop my designs into garments.  Here are a few snap shots of the direction I begun to take my research in...

My Bettina Barbie collection

Train of thought and direction...

Mood Board

Line up- collections

These boards where inspirated by the Barbie, child like image adding character and identity to my collection.

I was influenced by the old fashion paper doll clothes. I have also done my illustration photos which I will then adapt in photoshop and illustrator. In this style connectioning the ideas from the Peter Jensen collection combining both 2D with the 3D.

Flickr  is a great source to finding images of the paper dolls clothes,
One link I would like to share is a modern  used of the Paper doll clothes:

The beginning of Barbie, Bettina Graziani

Ok so you know my project outline, now to see my chosen Muse, the title gives it away a little, Yes thats right I chose the 1950's style Barbie. I loved this researchis was great fun bring back so many memories of my childhood, which I think is a key element I want my final garment to reflect. Though I wanted to ensure my outfit and collection had more depth and a strong stable theme. Therefore through my research of Barbie I found out that Bettina Graziana a  great french model during the 1950's influenced many including the Barbie image.

Bettina Has such a beautiful elegance about her it the photographs capturing the romance of Paris and the style and class of the 1950's.

With this being reflected in my shape and silhouette garment construction The barbie aspect I am hoping to incorporate in the colour schemeand my fabric choices.

A great book for seeing the different Barbie trends over the years which I found very useful for information and images is called: Barbie, Her Life and Times.

The images above are sourced from this book.

Peter Jensen - Project

Hey lovely lads and ladys,
Sorry it has be a while the tuth is I have been finding my feet after the summer starting my third and final year on my fashion design course.
Though this means I have new a flow of influences and design concepts, waiting to share with you all.

My first project is linked to Peter Jensen fashion company, where I have been required to take their research and designing method and apply it to my own findings and developments. Each of the collections has been build around a Muse... being anyone;

Famous          plain Jane         character           Fiction

what better place to start then to have a look at the Peter Jensen style, so here are a couple of quick examples of the fun, playful, creative, collections Petter Jensen have formed:

Laurie- Spring/summer 2010

I love this initiative photoshoot combining 3D with 2D, it's a real quirky eye catching way to bring a look book, stable photograph alive, and off the page.

                           Diane- Resort 2010
The reason I selected this collection is because I feel it shows the fun playful side to Peter Jensen designs with the comical photoshoot, stylized accessory and bold colour popping print.
